The world is currently producing nearly 300 million tons of plastic each year. Although plastic is a useful product, many of these products are created for single use with an estimated 50 per cent of plastic used once and thrown away. Currently, less than 10% of the world’s plastic is recycled. Further, as most plastics are not biodegradable they take hundreds of years to degrade in our environment. This is not only harmful to the environment and oceans but also to humans. In Myanmar, plastic pollution is a problem too, impacting every part of our community and even our Ayeyarwady turtles!
Our CEO Gerard Byrne notes that “while a complete solution to the plastic problem is years away, small changes can make a big difference. So we sourced and distributed reusable shopping bags to our clients. Our clients are also educated on disadvantages of plastic usage and actively joined with BCF to beat plastic pollution in Myanmar. Together we take a small but important step to raise awareness and reduce the destruction of our environment.”
